There are 11 fit Penguins and a 12th member, Leonard The Penguin-The Team Mascot! Last year the Penguins had a great learning and grounding experience at Touch rugby. This year , their second season together in the under 6 age group, they
are more experienced and thriving with the introduction to Rippa Rugby. The Penguins have positive and enthusiastic attitudes to the game and each other and are really into chasing and ripping and of course scoring a try! Coaches Brad, Rachel and Ashley have the lucky responsibility of
developing the skills of these Perky Penguins further together with the management of Jane.
So far the Penguins have been swimming to victory this year with a win at at each match. Go the Sumner Penguins!

Under 6 Tsunamis
The Sumner Under 6 Tsunamis team are a force to be reckoned with. A brilliant bunch of boys, their enthusiasm to learn and team spirit is
relentless. They are led by two intrepid coaches and followed by a biased gaggle of passionate parent supporters. Mouth guards and laughter are compulsory at training and matches.
The team consists of Alex Barker, Tom Barker, Elijah Butts, Jade Harrison, George Hudson, Flynn Hunter, Billy McLoughlin, Cameron Murray, Blake Theobald, Louis Wells and
Charlie Wise. They range in size and age but everyone has a part to play, the smaller guys often demonstrating that size isnt everything!
With only one player with previous experience our fearless coach Andrew Barker has taken on the challenge willingly. The teams progress has been really good. From
early days Andrew has nurtured a team mentality, learning each others names before the parents had even pondered what they had let themselves in for. They quickly learnt to chase the guy with the ball and are already heading into serious tactics. Andrews goals for the team are primarily
enjoyment and physical activity in general. Along the way he aims for them to gain a good grounding of basic skills that will enable them to progress with the game of rugby.
We are very fortunate to have the assistant coaching skills of Ben Southland, (U15) who attends all the training sessions and the matches, a real role
model for the Tsunamis players, and a son to dream of for the parents.
So far this season 3 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss, 1000s of smiles.

Apart from two newbies this the teams second year of playing rugby ... and it shows! Going from losses and, if we were lucky, draws last year to a so far unbeaten season this year! The boys are really enjoying playing Ripper rugby after
last years touch. This year we have a new coach too, Jess Ford, who the boys have responded very well too! The Minnows are concentrating on working on their Defence and beginning to understand that it is just as important as scoring those sort after tries!

SUMNER DORIES : UNDER 6
Names of players from left to right in the photo: Back row; Anaru, Jaiden, Enzo, Tom, Jack, Gus, Harvey. Front row; Jasper, Roman, Monty, Mason, Zach. Coaches/Manager; Wal, Chris, Callum, Scott.
Played 5, went down in 4 tight, close struggles and 1 draw.
The Super Sumner Dories are a group of awesome future Crusaders who have mostly fairly recently turned 5. All except for mighty Monty who is still 3! We have a good mix of boys who have a season of touch under their belts
with boys new to the team. Todd Blackadder's understudies, with the responsibility of moulding this great team, are Callum, Chris and Wal. These guys do a great job in ensuring the boys learn new skills, become mates, participate, be proud of the club, put in the odd tackle (it's ripper!),
and have fun while going for the win! We are currently lulling the other teams into a false sense of security, and are soon to unleash the full fury of the Dories. Watch this space.
Go Sumner!
